Supplementing with Iron

How common is iron deficiency?

There are two groups of people who more often than not are iron deficient, children 1-2 years of age and premenopausal women. The vast majority of people are generally not deficient, but what is becoming an unwise practise is foods that are provided for feeding schemes that are fortified with vitamins and minerals such as iron. These foods may border on being dangerous. Iron should not be taken if there is not a case of obvious deficiency because foods that are fortified are not good for general consumption and the companies that produce these foods are obviously not aware of the latest research warning of the hazards of excessive iron intake.

How much iron?

Iron is extremely important to the human body and in all cases except pregnant women; the body is self contained and as far as iron is concerned. In contrast with most other minerals iron is not lost through the excretion of urine and daily losses are mainly through the natural loss of cells through the metabolic tract and the skin. The average amount of iron loss is 1, 0 mg/day.

In the case of athletes, additional losses occur as a result of sweating and haemolysis, which is the destruction of some red blood cells from the impacting of the feet. The loss of iron is different for different groups of people, menstruating women, non-menstruating women, men and children. When iron is supplemented, only about 10% is absorbed, but you have to bear in mind these different groups of people require different amounts of iron per day.

Men and non-menstruating women require around 10mg.
Menstruating women 5-10mg.
Pregnant women around 25mg.
Male blood donors 30mg.

Reasons for none absorption of iron

In the case of people who are clearly established to have iron deficiency-anaemia, and are not responding to supplementation, then the problem lies elsewhere. One of the areas that then need to be addressed is the lack of synergistic vitamins. These are vitamins and minerals that the body requires to complete the process of absorption and these are:

Zinc
Copper
Vitamin B12
Folic Acid.

More 100 000 chemicals have added to our foodchain since the 1950’s

As a result of the soils that our crops are grown in, the food value of the produce is not what it used to be and what we are faced with are nutritional deficiencies that never existed 100 years ago As a result of over utilization and chemical pollutants in our soils,our water and our air. We are simply becoming more and more nutritionally under nourished. To name one example, a tomato that is bought in an average supermarket has 400 times less food value than a tomato that has been grown organically under natural conditions. Sadly, it is taking far too long for commercial farmers to realize that the fertilizers they are using which are chemical based, are impregnating the produce with chemicals and damaging our health. The health of the first world is failing at an unprecedented rate just look at the amount of hospitals and clinics are being built every year to cope with the demand for healthcare. The standard argument put forward by those with financial interests in this industry are saying “it’s due to population growth”. That may be so to a lesser degree but the reality is chemicals in our foods. This is a vicious circle, more sick people, more drugs are being used and the side effects from these chemicals perpetuate further illness and so the world is quickly headed in a downward spiral that is benefitting the chemical and pharmaceutical companies and the healthcare system and we humans are simply the losers on all fronts.

The pharmaceutical companies have no interest in researching drugs that will address the causes of a disease, there is no money in that, they spend billions on developing drugs that treat the symptoms. The saying goes, “ for $ 400.00 a cure for a condition may be found, but for a $ 1.00 per day they can keep a patient for the rest of his or her life” For example blood pressure or blood thinning medication or insulin for diabetics. It certainly makes a lot more financial sense to the management of these multinationals, this industry is worth $ 1,4 Trillion Dollars annually.

These companies are also now realizing that people are starting to use more vitamins and supplements because the average person is beginning to realize that drugs and chemicals are not the long term solution to our health problems. What these companies are now doing is producing so called “vitamins” that are synthesized from chemicals. The average person will go down to their local supermarket and buy vitamins believing that what they are buying will improve their health, not so. These products are simply costing money and offering minimal benefit and are passing right through their bodies and making “expensive pee” as Professor Harry Seftel says with monotonous regularity. Vitamin D: Cholesterol is converted to acetate, brominated, catalyzed, saponified and photocheically, converted into pre-Vitamin D. Thermal treatment then rearranges it into Vitamin D3. Vitamin D2 are made in a similar way, but starting from ergosterol and extracted with hexane.
Vitamin E: (Alpha-tocopherol) Natural tocopherols are extracted from vegetable oils with hexane and then methylated. Synthetic forms are produced from trimethyl hydroquinones and isophytol.

Stomach ulcers are caused by the over concentration of acid in the stomach and causes an irritation of the stomach lining and eventually causes bleeding. Stress normally presents in the stomach in men and in the colon in women. Often you will hear about women complaining of a spastic colon and men from stomach ulcers.

Stress causes elevated levels of acid in the body and acid causes stress.

Mixing protein and carbohydrates, for example spaghetti bolognaise, or curry and rice or bangers and mash. That is what causes elevated levels of acid in the body. Sugar also causes acid, so wait about 20 minutes when wanting to have a pudding after a meal it will obviate the generation of that acid.

Symptoms

A relentless pain in the pit of your stomach which gets worse while eating or just after. Often the pain starts in the late morning and can wake you up at night. Blood in the vomit or very dark faeces.

Treatment

Separate starch and protein, eat these 20 minute apart if possible. The better way of eating is to have chicken and salad or vegetables and meat by doing that it will not cause agitation in the system and little or no discomfort. After eating drink a glass of warmish water with the juice of half a lemon which alkalises the system and takes away heartburn.

Never eat and drink at the same time, it dilutes the digestive enzymes and promotes indigestion. Drink a glass of water 15 minutes before or after eating. Cayenne pepper should clear up an ulcer in about 6-7 days. Cayenne pepper is an alkaline and also stops the haemorrhaging and normalises circulation.

True story

A man that suffered with sever ulcers contemplated suicide because of the pain and swallowed handful of cayenne pepper not realising that it was the perfect antidote. He went to bed expecting to die and woke the next morning pain free.

Cayenne pepper aids digestion and nourishes the heart muscles and also alkalises the body. It promotes healthy circulation and has anti-cancer activity. Ginger is also excellent for the metabolic tract and has a soothing effect. Liquorice is good for soothing the stomach lining too and so is a teaspoon of fennel and turmeric.

Over 80% of our health problems start in the kitchens in our homes.

Having been a speaker at a conference in Durban this past week end, I spoke about the environment and the levels of toxicity in our homes. It is very disturbing that the average man on the street is so apathetic and/or ignorant about the levels of toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis. Going into a supermarket and read the labels of the cleaning products and you will be horrified at the levels of toxic chemicals in these products. By using them in our kitchens to clean the floors and surfaces etc, leaves them looking very clean and sterile, but, the toxic chemicals are now on those surfaces. We will touch them, prepare food on them and walk on them and of course we are allowing our babies to crawl on those toxic floors. As we all know, babies will put their hands in their mouths and they are then transferring all those deadly chemicals into their mouths and bodies.

Babies have under developed immune systems and having this avalanche of chemicals being absorbed will break down that child’s health and as a result we have babies as young as 3 months of age that have arthritis, allergies forcing them to have asthma pumps (these damage the heart muscles), skin cancer, brain tumours and all the other horrific diseases and illnesses. And yet they persist with toxifying their homes.

Advertisers are fooling the public into believing that we are winning the war against cancer, it is misleading. If people think HIV/AIDS is a killer, cancer is going to surpass that disease. The Medicinal Properties Of Potatoes

Potatoes have been used as a medicinal medium for hundreds of years, rich in mineral vitamins and Vitamin C especially. The skin is loaded with potassium which is good for regulating the rhythm of the heart.

Note:

Never eat the skin of a potato raw or cooked, cook the potato in its skin because the potassium will permeate into the potato, then remove the skin and eat.

This condition is very common is women and may present at the age of around 40’s onwards. The Disease.

Diabetes is a cased by a deficiency of insulin a hormone that occurs in the pancreas. A lack of this hormone stops the body absorbing glucose. In this case insulin needs to be injected with type 1 diabetics to normalise glucose levels.

Symptoms.

Abnormal thirst.
High frequency of urination.
Body weakness.
Bad breath.
Eye sight deterioration.
Bad circulation is hands and feet.

Gangrene in some cases.

Treatment.

Eat fresh parsley to manage the bad breath situation.
Celery as well as sauerkraut reduces sugar levels.

Symptoms of a Migraine Headache.

The classical feature of a migraine headache is that throbbing usually on the one side of the head, not always but normally. 10% of the population suffers with this condition and women normally more common in women.

This is caused by the narrowing and or dilating of the blood vessels in one or another part of the brain. These attacks can last up to two days. There are two types of migraine, the common one and the rare classical. Migraines can be experienced as a result of a genetic predisposition or may be triggered by factors such as:StressHormonal changes with menopause Menstruation sometimes with pregnancy, oral contraceptives. Foods that contain tyramine, or amino acids which affect blood vessels such as bananas, cheese, chocolate, eggs, oranges, spinach, tomatoes and spices with MSG,wine.

Possible causes of migraine headaches.

Wheat based bread.
Refined cane sugar.
Chocolates.
Cheese
Wine
Cut out dairy

In some people the following can be problematic.

Eggs.
Bananas.
Tomatoes.
Gassy drinks.
Potato crisps.

Treatment.

Eat rye bread.
Separate starch and protein.
Put lavender under your nose and breathe deeply.
Chew peppermint leaves.
Mix 1 teaspoon of cyenne pepper and turmeric mix in hot water with lemon juice.
Cut a few slices of ginger root boil 10 minutes and add to rooibos tea, mix with honey and lemon juice.
